They met on a blind date while they were in college. Marian was very lovely, having been a member of the homecoming queen’s court. Dorsey was very handsome. He was so handsome, in fact, that he was dating numerous women at the time of their meeting. He had one girl that he liked to take dancing because she was a wonderful dancer, another girl he liked to take bowling because she always got a high score, another gal he enjoyed taking for long walks because she was a superb conversationalist, and another woman he liked to take to the movies because she was fun to hold hands with in the dark.
The night they met, they talked for hours. When he got home, he called all the girls he had been dating and said, “I’m sorry I can’t see you anymore. I’ve just met the woman I’m going to marry.” Three nights later, he brought over an engagement ring. His proposal was enthusiastically accepted. Seven months later, they were married.
After sixty-seven years of marriage, Marian fell ill. Six weeks later, she died. Dorsey was absolutely devastated. I know their story well because Dorsey and Marian are my parents.
Best,
Dr. Sheri
